Future Expansion: Namo Bharat Trains from Duhai to Meerut South Opening in Two Months

In a stride toward the future, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) announced that the next 25-km stretch of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor, connecting Ghaziabad’s Duhai Depot to Meerut South, is set to open its doors to the public in just two months. This development comes hot on the heels of the operational priority section inaugurated last year, marking a significant leap forward in high-speed and reliable commutes.

Progress and Expansion

Puneet Vats, Chief PRO of NCRTC, shared insights into the project’s progress, stating, “The 17-km long priority section is currently operational, and the NCRTC team is working diligently to extend the Namo Bharat trains to the additional 25 km section from Duhai to Meerut South, beyond the existing priority stretch.”

This upcoming section boasts four stations – Muradnagar, Modi Nagar South, Modi Nagar North, and Meerut South – adding more accessibility to commuters along the corridor. Once operational, the entire 42 km stretch from Sahibabad to Meerut South will be available, offering a reliable, safe, and high-speed commuting experience.

Forward Momentum and Targets

Delhi itself is poised to join this network by January next year, a testament to the relentless work of Team NCRTC. The project is currently ahead of schedule, aiming to complete the entire 82 km corridor by June 2025.

The challenges faced during the project, such as navigating existing structures like Anand Vihar station’s underground platform and addressing drainage concerns along the tunnel from Anand Vihar to Khichadipur, have been met with innovative solutions and efficient execution.

Trailblazing Approach

Recently, the NCRTC commenced trial runs for Namo Bharat trains between Duhai and Meerut South stations, showcasing its commitment to operational readiness. An interesting note is the intention to involve more women employees than men in the operations of this 25-km stretch, highlighting a progressive and inclusive approach.

Beacon of modern transit solutions

As anticipation builds for the imminent opening, the Namo Bharat Trains project emerges as a beacon of modern transit solutions, bringing together speed, safety, and efficiency. The extension to Meerut South not only signifies enhanced connectivity but also reflects the dedication of the NCRTC team to exceed expectations. Commuters can look forward to a transformative commuting experience, and the entire region eagerly awaits the unveiling of this new chapter in rapid transit.
